Frequently Asked Questions
About
What makes a good wedding DJ?
You’ve likely heard a few DJ horror stories—they played the wrong first dance song, didn’t read the room, didn’t bring the right equipment, etc. A good DJ is knowledgeable about music and knows how to make people dance, of course—but is also a competent audio engineer, MC, live performer, and should be friendly and pleasant to work with. You want more than just an algorithm; you want to hire a human being who understands your vision and leaves their ego at the door.

What sets you apart from other DJs?
I’m a lifelong musician, studied music composition in college and have been performing for crowds around the world for over a decade. I’ve honed plenty of overlapping musical skills like playing instruments, singing, and writing music. Having a deep understanding of what makes music work and the history of music has always influenced my DJing. As an artist, I believe in the craft of DJing as storytelling—not just playing one song after the other, but playing the right song in the right way at the right time.

Music & Requests
How does the music planning process work?
My goal is to help curate a soundtrack that feels like you and reflects your unique love story—so the more I learn about your style and music taste the better! From there we’ll work together to complete a music questionnaire and create the vibe you want.
Will you help with the ceremony music?
Yes! My packages include music for the ceremony, including optional live music with guitar and vocals, so you’ll be covered for the entire day.
Can you mix different styles of music?
Absolutely! I’ve been DJing professionally for about a decade and perform at 50+ events every year for various age groups, genres, and cultures. I specialize in blending genres naturally to keep all ages and tastes on the dance floor.
Wedding Day Logistics
Do you also MC and make announcements?
Yes! I’ll handle all key announcements—introducing the wedding party, toasts, first dance, etc.—with a professional and casual style. My goal is always to make all guests feel seen and respected, inclusive of all genders, ethnicity, etc.
Do you provide your own equipment?
Yes! I provide professional-grade sound systems, wireless microphones, and dance floor lighting. If your venue has specific sound requirements, I’ll coordinate with them to make sure everything runs smoothly.
Do you need anything from us or the venue?
My contract includes a few easily provided items: a 6-ft table and tablecloth by the dance floor, proximity to reliable power within 100 ft, and a meal/dinner break. That’s it!
Other Questions
How early do you arrive to set up?
I typically arrive 2.5 to 3 hours before the ceremony begins to ensure everything is set up and tested before guests arrive.
What happens if you get sick or have an emergency?
I have a network of professional and reliable DJs I can call on in case of emergency, so you’ll never be left without music! I also include a relevant clause in my contract to ensure your investment is protected.
Can you provide music for other events (rehearsal dinner, afterparty, etc.)?
Rehearsals and different-day events are not included in standard packages and require a separate day-rate (subject to availability). Extended hourly coverage and same-day afterparties at a second location are available—let’s chat!
Do you travel?
I’m based in Portland and primarily service the greater Portland and Hood River areas. Due to the amount of effort required to travel with DJ equipment, I don’t currently offer services further than 3 hours from Portland.
